Tex on Choosing a Bargain Bolt action The Stevens Model 200

The Stevens Model 200 is in my opinion an excellent hunting rifle, and if you are a police marksmen who has to buy his own rifle it could also serve in that function as well. The Calibers of the stevens 200 are 223 22-250 243 25-06 270 7mm-08 308 30-06 7mm rem mag 300 win mag So take your pick and expect to get out the door with the rifle for less than 0 with a very high value gun.

@brap290 My dear sir, this rifle is the same action and barrel as the model savage model 10.
The main difference is the stock and it has no magazine drop plate.

Tex, is that gun made in the USA?

This is real important to me nowadays.

The Stevens Model 200 is THE BEST value, hands down! My .243 has repeatedly shot 3-shot groups covering a dime at 100 yards. What more do you want from a rifle?

@m70c00l Depends on the specific 110. The 200 has a Savage action and barrel. But it doesn’t include the accutrigger. The stock is a tad flimsy, but the barrel is free-floated and pillar-bedded. It’s not a heavy barrel though. That said, they’re HIGHLY capable shooters. My 200 in .223 is capable of 1/2″ groups at 100 yards with handloads.

are stevens and savage the same or something, because my savage 110 looks identical to that gun other than its 30-06.

@crisshort1996 Will it kill a black bear? Sure it will but the .243 is way under gunned for that purpose.. a bear is a very very tough animal and I wouldn’t recommend anything less than a .270, shooting a minimum of a 140 grain premium grade hunting bullet such as noslers ballistic tip or barnett triple shock. Hope this helps! Happy hunting.

@jsilvatx- I hunt S. Texas whitetail, hogs & javelinas. I bought this rifle in a .270 because I got tired of being paranoid about taking my Medallion Series Browning out in the elements. I put a 3×9 Leupold scope perfect for 100 yds so you might wanna go bigger for 200 yds. I also couldn’t be happier with the grouping. I use 130 grain Ballistic pt Winchester & have not lost any game that I have hit. You should be just fine in West Texas. BTW Very Accurate Review, I thought I got lucky with mine.

@filo4life11 in my hunting time i have had both the .270 and now use the .30-06
if you are mainly deer hunting and possibly coyotes if you see one then i recommend go with the .30-06 ( that is depending on if you want the coat from the coyote, if not then .30-06 ) you have that extra bit of knockdown power, the .270 is a great round to knock down large animals ( kangaroo/red deer ) but id pick my .30-06 anyday over the ,270

hunting deer, yotes, hogs, all at around 200yds or less in west tx.. will the .270 hold its ground here. i have too many 30.06 fans around here, i seem to lean to .270 right or wrong?

@hookincatfish1 Ya know. I own a Marlin XL-7 30-06. Personaly it is very versitile. i paid $329.oo It came ready to go with tapped/mounted tac. rails on it, witch makes it pretty rough n tough and a 3-9x 40mm scope. the scope it came with it is pretty cheep so i bought a Leupold rifleman 3-9x 40mm to mount on it and it is great. The marlin xl-7 series is also great because it has an adjustable, acutrigger(marlins version((same thing as savage or stevens))).

@hookincatfish1 i got it in 308 and it dose good with deer and its better at longrange than 243 or 30-6

  24. 24 hookincatfish1 said at 12:44 am on March 2nd, 2011:

how about just white tail could it be a 243?

  25. 25 crisshort1996 said at 12:44 am on March 2nd, 2011:

I got the savage edge in 243. I got it for coyote, and groundhog. But I just want to know, I have custom loaded rounds with 100 gr. bullets, will it kill a black bear? On the case it says medium sized game like whitetail deer, mule deer, and black bear. but it isn’t legal to hunt bear where I live, yet… I was just wondering
