(GunReports.com) — Gun Tests Magazine Publisher Timothy H. Cole recognized Kel-Tec’s PMR-30 22 WMR as the publication’s “Best in Class Pistol” for 2011 at the just-concluded SHOT Show in Las Vegas. Cole made a special award to Derek Kellgren, Kel-Tec CNC Industries’ Director of Marketing at the show. The pistol joins a Ruger LCR wheelgun, an AR-style 300 Whisper from SSK Industries, a 12-gauge autoloading shotgun from Legacy Sports International, and a laser/light combo accessory from Crimson Trace as the magazine’s “Best in Class” 2011 honorees. “Our accept-no-advertising policy gives us the freedom to choose guns that simply work well,” said Gun Tests Publisher Timothy H. Cole. “The ‘Best in Class’ winners exhibit the traits we prize — accuracy, reliability, tight fit and finish, handsome cosmetics, and value for the dollar.” The exact test model was the Kel-Tec PMR-30 No. 408320267 22 WMR, originally reviewed in the November 2011 issue of Gun Tests. The PMR-30 semiauto holds 30 rounds of 22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire cartridges in the magazine. The slide and barrel are made of 4140 steel housed in a 7075 aluminum frame. The grip, slide cover, trigger, mag release, and safety levers are glass-reinforced Zytel nylon, much like other Kel-Tec pistols. Other features include dual opposing extractors, heel magazine release, dovetailed aluminum front sight, Picatinny accessory rail under the barrel, urethane recoil buffer, captive coaxial recoil springs. Filmed at the Little River rifle range facing the You Yangs, an SSAA branch. We were firing at paper targets on metal frames 100 metres (110 yards) from the shooting position. This is the first loading problem we had with the SMLE that day, and we knew exactly where we went wrong. It was far easier to take out the magazine and load in this instance…however much slower than the charger clips. Gun: 1943 Lithgow (NSW) SMLE, .303 British. Kel-Tec SU-22: “4 Pounds of Tactical” by Nutnfancy

Many things make the Kel-Tec SU-22 cool. First and foremost the weight: this little Tactical .22 only weighs 4 lbs! You will be amazed at the Philosophies of Use that this lightweight will open for you: recreational, tactical training, backpacking, or even survival rifle uses are all appropriate. Moreover the light weight makes shooting and carrying the SU-22 for the female or young shooter more enjoyable. It is a “Tactical .22″ as I have been calling them for some time. It mimicks the centerfire Kel-Tec SU-16 series of rifles (reviewed, rec’d by me at www.youtube.com ) and many of its components are directly interchangeable. Of course you won’t get the recoil, range, ToF, and noise of a the .223 SUs, but the ergonomics and battery of arms are similar. Another big SU-22 attraction is price: about 0 lower than many other tactical .22s. Remember in this category, threaded muzzles, Picatinny rails, polymer furniture, larger capacity magazines, sling attachments, etc are found and they often add cost. But the SU-22 provides most of those features for less. Reliability is good when the gun is kept clean. In my extended firing (without cleaning) that the SU-22 would experience failures to go into battery when dirty (no matter the ammo). When kept clean with appropriate lubrication, the little SU-22 cranked along with few jams, even with affordable bulk Federal .22 ammo (Remington Golden .22 is garbage and choked repeatedly in the tests…not recommended). Kel-Tec wisely uses
