The “Crickett” .22 single shot rifle is an American classic. The lightweight and affordable Crickett combines excellent build quality, fast handling, a good trigger, a simple battery of arms, excellent peep sights, a good looking and functional stock, and compact size that fits kids perfectly. It Is the perfect training rifle to teach your small shooters responsible and safe gun handling, trigger and sight picture control, and ammunition conservation… all while having fun. Produced by the Keystone Sporting Arms Company in Milton, PA, the gun is backed by a company that has shown superior customer service with its customers. The diminutive Crickett rifle comes in a wide variety stocks, finishes, and even is offered in a full sized adult version, the Model 300 (all models and styles subject to change of course). Shown in the video is the Model 252 Crickett rifle and it has served my family well (”Chipmunk” branded .22 rifles are also very similar). These guns make memorable gifts items for your family members and are affordable heirloom items. Accuracy, durability, and ease of use are all superb. Surprisingly, this is a fun gun to shoot and costs next to nothing to do so. Bolt actuation adds to the fun and simple plunger bolt is effective. There are other single shot rifle options but the Crickett rifle is my favorite and has my highest recommendation. . /////////////Nutnfancy Likeability Scale: 10 of 10

Ruger 10/22: The Everyman’s Rifle, Part 2

Part 2 of 2: Every shooter in the US should own a Ruger 10/22 (and I wish my overseas viewers could too!). It is the everyman’s, all-around .22 rifle. It shocks me when I find one that doesn’t! That’s because it provides immense enjoyment and capabilities for such a reasonable cost. Even out-of-box, the venerable 10/22 is accurate, very reliable, tough, ergonomic, lightweight, easy to use and carry, and most of all, fun! It continues to be an extremely successful Ruger design, having sold well over 5 million copies (and still going strong). It has out-sold and out-survived many other .22 designs to include the Remington Nylon 66. The 10/22 has always represented amazing value. That’s because for a reasonable price you are getting a rifle that will probably last your entire lifetime. My circa 1976 10/22 (shown) was given to me as a young man by my Dad and has adventured with me in the swamps of Florida and Alabama, the woods of Virginia, Montana, and Washington, the plains of North Dakota, and in the deserts of Utah, eastern Oregon, Arizona, and Idaho. And it’s still going strong. There are fancier and equally as-fun .22 rifles available but the 10/22s excel in most areas (and several cool Distributor Exclusive 10/22s abound, like the shown French walnut stocked TALO version) and provide unmatched versatility for the user. The 10/22 has a modular, simple design that makes upgrades to the trigger, bolt, magazine, stock, barrel, and sighting systems easy (many options shown

Marlin Papoose .22: “Top Survival Rifle” by Nutnfancy

The Marlin Papoose .22 rifle is an excellent all-around .22 rifle choice. Weighing only 3.2 lbs (!) and having the capability to break down easily into a buoyant carry case, the Papoose is extremely portable. It is lighter and more compact than most other .22s around. And unlike some other previous survival .22s, its accurate and reliable while still offering adequate firepower. Other features include a grooved receiver for scope mounting, last shot hold open, high visibility open sights, stainless steel construction, sling swivels, a decent trigger, a fiberglass polycarbonate stock, and the availability of 10 rd magazines (7 rd standard). The Marlin Papoose will function well in different roles: family .22 rifle, survival kit gun, or backpacking gun. The version shown wears a compact and lightweight Weaver 4×28 Classic Rimfire scope (#849430, SWFA.com) which maximizes its accuracy. Its the best .22 pack rifle around.

Plinking with my Ruger 10/22, one of the most popular rifles ever made. This rifle was a Christmas gift from my father in 1987. Tactical Solutions offers some products for the Ruger 10/22, but it’s Tactical Innovations that makes the magazine I was trying to think of in the video.

A wicked barrel mod by Nutnfancy. Shown is a legal, non-SBR (short barreled rifle) mod to my TAPCO RNG 10/22. Blind pinned and welded on, the excellent Phantom 5C2 flash suppressor makes a sick addition to the DuraCoated gun. Barrel is now stubby 16 inches, on par with the factory 10/22 Compact (shown in comparison). Also added is a Power Custom extended bolt handle to improve ergonomics and speed. These mods make the gun cooler, shorter, lighter, and even faster in action than before….

DuraCoated TAPCO 10/22 by Nutnfancy: Great RunNGun Option!

Don’t waste your ammo, invest it. The way to do that is doing a Nutnfancy-type “RunNGun” with your friends and family. While benchrest, tin can shooting , and paper punching have their place and are fun, these days I’m a fan of our heart pumping, competitive RunNGuns. With the right folks in attendance, these course are a blast to shoot and provide stress-oriented training that can transfer to other weapon platforms. TNP RunNGun courses are generally 100 yards in length with various stages …
