How not to top load a Lee Enfield SMLE

Filmed at the Little River rifle range facing the You Yangs, an SSAA branch. We were firing at paper targets on metal frames 100 metres (110 yards) from the shooting position. This is the first loading problem we had with the SMLE that day, and we knew exactly where we went wrong. It was far easier to take out the magazine and load in this instance…however much slower than the charger clips. Gun: 1943 Lithgow (NSW) SMLE, .303 British. Oh, you have a MkV?? They’re very? rare! Only about 20,000 of those. Unsure if the magazine is identical though…you could check usedguns.com or post up a ‘looking for’. But first see if a magazine for a more common gun like the No.1 MkIII or the No.4 Mk.I can fit into it.

@flyboy172r Bloody hell…thats outrageous. It was the same in UK though. I belonged to a civilian gun club as well as shooting in the services. They all were responsible people, all properly licensed and above board and had their own weapons but the government decided they were all ‘naughty boys’? and couldn’t be trusted and took their guns off them, the bad guys could keep theirs of course..as always. I have a Smith & Wesson M&P .40 cal,a Kahr P9, Ruger .357 Mag. The collection is ongoing!

Very jealous! :( Very depressing here in Aus. You have to pay through your teeth to get anywhere close to a handgun licence - and even then you’re limited to .38 I believe. As? for semi auto shotguns, rimfire or centrefire - they’re all very difficult categories to get. If you CAN get them, you also have to pay a fortune. Example, a new AR-15 in the US is what, $750-800? In Aus it’s a Category D gun (prohibited), and if you have a D licence - they cost $11,000 USED.

In my 38 years in the Royal Navy and being a weapons Chief, I had the good fortune of being able to fire a wide variety of close combat weaponry, especially as I was in charge of the small arms on several? ships and a maintainer for some Royal Marine detachments we had onboard but, got to admit, one of the best rifles I EVER fired was the SMLE .303 in the cadets prior to my RN service. And now, living in the US…I’m going to get me one to go with my collection of handguns!!!!!!!!!

Holy smoke! Rounds all over the place. You had five in the? charger, but it looked like more in the magazine as well. BTW, I wonder if John Howard ever used a gun in his life, or if he simply superimposed his personal preferences over the face of Australian politics. Roll on mature, proper, balanced governance!!

@fiestafan5 Dude, you fail so hard. That’s not a detachable box magazine. You? load it with two stripper clips. When they made the Enfield, noone used detachable box magazines.

@LDave91 As the nice aussie said, we were. Until our bloody governments took it upon themselves to hate us normal gun lovers. -_- Come live in britain and try our gun laws for size. You are practically treated as? a criminal the moment you ask for a licence application.
