BFBC2 Mythbusters: Does the M95 Have Reduced Bullet Drop?

I had read that before on various forums and wikis, but I had also read a tweet from Demize99 (senior gameplay designer for BFBC2) saying that such claims were untrue. So, I decided to test the M95’s bullet drop myself. In doing so, I discovered that the GOL is the only sniper rifle with absolutely no idle sway while scoped in. Good stuff, I like the SpecEdition :)!
You could test a [shotgun + slug attachment] accuracy, because they seem unreal to me!
Max accurate distance?
Damage?
Headshot = Kill?
> sniper O_o??
Keep it up man, always a pleasure to watch your videos (and hear your voice, which sounds wrong, but is true)!
If you still don’t believe me, check the following link, in which Senior Gameplay Designer for BFBC2, Alan Kertz, reveals the truth behind the bullet drop and velocity in BFBC2:

@HABRADASHR Alright, I won’t mess with you. But I still don’t understand where you’re getting this reduced bullet drop information. Den Kirson himself states, “All bullets travel at the same arbitrary speed of “600″ (though their tracers are made intentionally slower than the actual projectile).” Pair that with Demize99’s statement that the velocity at which all projectiles fall is “still 9.81m/s,” and you get identical bullet drop for all bullet-firing weapons in the game.
@d0n7bl1nk
i know where ur kids go to shool som dont mess with me btw its denkirson on xanga
Cool idea with the Mythbuster thing. I’d like to see more vids like this.
@Panadawn Thanks for that link. I’ll take Demize’s word over a forum-goer’s (no offense forum-goers :P), but I still trust Den Kirson. He goes through the game’s code itself when coming up with his numbers, and he found that all bullet-based weapons have an identical round velocity of 600. So, since all weapons have a bullet drop deceleration of 9.81 m/s, and all bullet-based weapons have a round velocity of 600, that still means that all bullet-based weapons have identical bullet drop.
@d0n7bl1nk Okay yeah I went and looked. His graphs are nice, but i’m not sure its accurate. Demize99 tweeted that its 9.81m/s for all weapons. Link to tweet: twitter[dot]com/demize99/status/10434590711
@ukuleleboi1 Do your homework! Haha.
@Panadawn The amount of bullet drop in this game is actually less than in real life (-5.04 m/s^2 in-game vs. -9.81 m/s^2 IRL), and all bullet-based weapons have the exact same round velocity (600 m/s). You can check the links in the description of this video to find out how those numbers were determined.
@HABRADASHR I know it uses a different bullet. I’ve just never seen any certifiable evidence proving that it has less bullet drop. Send me a PM if you have any links, and I’ll take a look at them.
@Panadawn I did, actually. I tested all the bolt-actions multiple times on a separate server. After five trials with every single one, I realized the bullet drop was the same. Then I switched servers and recorded this footage. I just figured showing five trials with all the different guns would make for a long and boring video. If that’s what it’ll take to convince people, I might just have to do it, though :\.
@d0n7bl1nk
according to the gamefiles the m95 does have less bulletdrop (HMG_bullet (M95))
@d0n7bl1nk You should have done the experiment with other rifles as well, just in case the GOL and M95 are coded with the same muzzle velocity. The bullet will have dropped to the same point in the same amount of time if they have the same bullet speed. If they both have a 9.81 metres per second gravity multiplier, a slower bullet will have dropped more when it reaches the lighthouse (takes longer to travel there).
someone sounds like my science teacher…lol
@Gilithus @d0n7bl1nk All weapons, including stationary weapons have a gravity multiplier of 9.81 metres per second-per second. The reason you think it has ‘less bullet drop’ is because the weapon has higher muzzle velocity, that is, bullets travel faster (therefore further) in each second. A pistol bullet will hit the ground earlier because it doesnt travel as fast.
@YuNgxBuNdLeZ
Pointless, yes. Boring, no. I just wanted to give ideas btw, for the fun of it. I don’t mind if the majority of the subs don’t want to watch d0n7bl1nk doing it though. I can live with it
@M0t0rBreath89
I know the sway that occurs when mortar strikes doesn’t affect the actual placing of the crosshair but when it comes to the rifle itself I’m not so sure ( I haven’t played in awhile). If sway ( generated by holding the rifle itself and not other factors) does not affect accuracy then that means all the bolt action rifles have the same accuracy / bullet drop. Which also means the reload time, shots between each bullet and power are to be considered when choosing rifles?
@Gilithus I have honestly never seen proof of anything you just said. If you have links to any videos, screenshots, articles, etc. demonstrating any of that, send me a PM. The only bullet drop experiments/tests I have ever seen have shown there to be absolutely no difference between the bullet drop on any bullet-based weapon in the game, regardless of whether they’re using magnum ammo or not. If you have proof otherwise, however, I’d love to see it. That way we can put this subject to rest.
Just to clear some things up, the M95 does in fact have less bullet drop. In order to perform its higher penetration abilities in game, they made the M95 use the same bullets used by heavy mounted and emplaced machine guns which have low bullet drop. The other snipers also have differing bullet drop, which is easier to observe using magnum ammo as it creates a larger difference between any two non m95 snipers because magnum ammo increases dmg and bullet drop distance by 25%.
@YuNgxBuNdLeZ It only occurs on the PC. Consoles don’t have scope sway.
I really don’t like the GOL, except for close range run and gun action. The weapon I use for long range sniping is the 50 Cal, just out of preference.
i snipe most of the time in this game & never once noticed any idle sway so im lost on that subject.. but what is up with peoples fascination with 360 kills? to me its pointless but then again thats just me
no wonder there are so many wookie complaints on the consoles lol, they got it easy. I prefer the GOL myself, never noticed the sway missing on it, but found it to be my best recon gun.
@bowwowvveevva Sway does not affect your accuracy. It’s just an animation.
@onecentnickel why is it a bad example
