Its 30 gr VMAX bullet leaves the muzzle at 2200 feet per second, and delivers levels of accuracy never before seen from this cartridge, and excellent terminal performance out to 125 yards.
I can get roughly 1inch groupings with my marlin 982s,bought it second hand a month ago or so,its supressed but my dads hmr 917 out shoots it,although the 22mag has god knows how many rounds through it,its got 13 pukekhos and 3 rabbits,the 22mag has the energy over the hmr but i dunno about the rifle,i might sell it and buy a varminter version not to happy with groupings.
After months of searching for a seller i managed to get 500, put them down range quickly and wow 15.5mm group at a 100yds through my Cz455 wmr varmint with a Dm80 moderator. Highly recommended rounds
@01liquidfires Im buying a Marlin 983
All I can say is the 30 grain V-MAX is the real deal. I never had this level of performance out of my Marlin 983S. It shot the 40 grain JHP loads fine up to 100 yards and was a real bang for the buck, but Hornady’s load completely blew everything out of the water. I’m getting 17 HMR size groups at 100 yards with this load.
As a true believer in the 22 mag, this is the round we have been waiting for.
I’m loving it… and loving the 96, but can we get a little heavier bullet? I definitely trust Hornady and can believe they possibly did their homework already. I’m just saying if this was a 40 or 45 grain bullet, I’d be 100% sold on stocking up.
I have the exact rifle in the video, Ruger 96/22m. It absolutely LOVES this round!!! shoots like a target rifle! THANK YOU HORNADY!!!!
I tried the .22 magnum hornady V-max in my Marlin .22 magnum automatic. They are horrible in the automatic. They won’t feed and swell in the barrel making it hard to get them out. Then messes the end of the next round up. Works good in bolt action.
what kind of rifle should i buy for that?
@111skaterade that’d be pretty special. I hope they do too. Their vmax 17hmr rounds work fantastic!!!
god i hope hornady makes a vmax 22lr bullet
@ridicule401 Here’s a link to a great website that lists available .17 HMR ammo and also has a VERY detailed comparison of the .17 HMR and .22 WMR cartridges. Go to the “chuckhawks” website, click on “guns and shooting online”, then click on “Rimfire Guns and Ammo.” The links you’re looking for are: “Ammo Roundup: .17 HMR” and “Compared: .17 HMR and .22 WMR”.
@ridicule401 Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner, I had a lot of work to do for college. I suggest getting your rifle in the .17 HMR caliber. This caliber is better suited for highly-accurate, bolt-action rifles like yours. The .22 WMR cartridge isn’t as accurate as the .17 HMR, so it would waste the exceptional accuracy that I’m sure your gun is capable of. However, the .17 HMR isn’t as powerful as the .22 WMR, so I wouldn’t hunt anything much larger than foxes with it. Its your choice.
@metalstorm91291 i was planning on using for hunting
@ridicule401 Okay, cool. To answer your previous question, yes, if you bought your rifle in .22 WMR, you could use this ammo. However, the .17 HMR cartridge has its perks as well. To prevent me confusing you with technical jargon as to which cartridge is better, I need you to tell me: what game you’re planning to hunt, what ranges you’re planning to hunt at (25 yards, 50 yards, 100 yards, 200 yards, etc.), and if you’re going to use your gun for informal target shooting.
@metalstorm91291 i haven’t bought it yet im ordering it in two weeks when i get paid so yeah if can help me ill be very grateful
@ridicule401 I took a look at the website for your rifle. That’s one sweet gun you’ve got! I’m jealous! Anyway, the website offers your gun in several calibers. The calibers are: .17 HMR, .17 HM2, .22 LR, and .22 WMR. Before I’m able to answer your question, I need to know what your gun’s specific caliber is. Look in the gun’s manual, or on the gun itself, and tell me which caliber you find. Or have you bought it yet? If you haven’t, I’ll give you some advice on the caliber you should get it in.
