Unfortunately, they had the muzzle right next to the gel. Much of the initial expansion is? from the muzzle blast, not the round.
Hmmm? I wonder how that would look out of the 6.5″ barrel of the rough rider
PMR-30 looks like? a good defensive choice now
@smartguy104 The graphs were intended? to address that exact issue.
they claim its a match to? 380 acp. Near identical shock cavity and penetration.
test? out 22 wmr rifle rounds such as 40 gr CCI hp
@Migs4000 So what we have is a we have then is a very fast burning powder …. That’s awesome news? for my PMR 30 !!!
@TULLYNOL
Hornady states “Optimized for short-barreled firearms” in their article about this round.
Various forums and range talks seem to support that they did throw? a different powder in the brass.
@Migs4000 I? didn’t hear about that. Where did you read or hear this information.
@skks666
Hornady designed this ammo with a much faster burning powder for use in short? barrels revolvers like this.
That’s actually kind of impressive.?
@MrFtW2468 well, the american-180 can put up 20 rounds of .22 per second with very little recoil, I’m fairly? sure that’s more energy transfer over time compared to your snubbie. It’s not the quality, it’s the quantity.
@skks666 Nope, i carry a S&W night guard 327NG (8 shot .357 snub nose) i only use .22 for? hunting and varmint control.
@MrFtW2468 you? would if you had the american-180
.22 WMR is a rifle cartridge which means the powder burns slow, it’s actually impressive to get such results with a tiny barrel like which was used here.?
Wow isn’t that? somethin
Wow … mighty impressive, especially? coming out of a little NAA revolver. Imagine 30 of these suckers coming out of a Kel-Tec PMR-30 - now THAT is some impressive small-bore firepower!
I’m very surprised that? actually expanded.
Have you heard Winchester is introducing the 22 magnum into their PDX1 line?
@brentfoto
since .082 is given as inch², that number should be the added frontal area. A .22 bullet has a frontal area of 0.152? inch² (0.22*0.22*3.14), so the total expanded frontal area would be 0.234″. Thats means the expanded Diameter is about 0.273″, I guess that was the number you were looking for. (0.234 /3.14 = 0.07452 -> ? 0.07452 = 0.273)
@brentfoto I’m guessing that the bullet expanded .082 inches beyond its original .220 inch diameter for a total of .302 total expanded diameter? (I could be wrong, though).
I don’t understand the expansion at only .082, when the original bullet is .220.? Am I missing something? Is there an error here?
For a second I? thought the bullet was going to go in reverse as the gel spit it back out,that would’ve been hilarious
I would never use? any .22 for self defense. .22lr and mag are some of my fav rounds for small game and plinking though.
the? gelatin won.
Better than throwing rocks!?
