As a reminder the 17 has a more of a pointed tip than compared to the 22mags round nose tip that was made more for knock down power than penetration. Remember the 17 bullet is made a? little more rigid so that it does not fall apart on contact. For this test to be honest make the 22mag with the same metal strength as the 17 and there it is.

Again you have a double wall on the flat side with the 22mag shot. Then you go high with the 17 hmr were it is still? thin hmmm. Yes still cheating the test.

Don’t say .17 hmrs? don’t have stopping power go shoot a rabbit with hollow point and tell me different

Tactical facepalm, of course the hollow point doesn’t penetrate, it’s made for stopping in flesh, so it would never pierce a helmet.? :D

@yotekiller21 Hey, you realize you need? to hit the “Reply” button next to someone’s comment in order for it to notify them, right? You seem to have replied to a lot of other people’s comments without actually “replying”. Anyway, as for the video, I’m surprised the .22 Magnum didn’t penetrate. It’s significantly more powerful than a .22LR. But is it just me, or is there another helmet underneath that? If so, could that have hindered the penetration of the .22 Magnum?

22 mag is? much better in my opinion

i wish some one? would do more 17hmr penetration test like on vest.like 22mag vs17hmr.see witch one penetrates.

This is a great video. I think we need more like this to show real world functionality of all types of cartridge designs. New designs aren’t always a bad thing. Evolution: .44spl. to .44mag. .38spl. to .357mag. .45colt to .454 casull.

Sometimes they are though like the 9mm Makarov.

    Here’s a really interesting one, .44spl. vs .40S&W. ? Much like the .17HMR and .22 debate is the .40S&W vs .357sig.

What 22mag round are you using, have you tested the Hornady ammo? just curious?

  14. 14 adamclark94 said at 12:44 pm on January 26th, 2012:

@DeisisAndDrosera in effectivness???? a 22 mag gets 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards plus has more energy.sure it has more drop after 120 yards than the hmr but if you are shooting that far you shouldnt really be using either gun unless its like a squirrel. you should upgrade to 223 for anything beyond 120 yards for rabbit or coyote to? get the for sure clean kill otherwise you are putting that animal through pain for an extended amount of time

  15. 15 adamclark94 said at 12:44 pm on January 26th, 2012:

unless you are hunting giant tortuises the 17 hmr is definatly not as powerful as the 22 mag. the 22 mag has much more energy going into flesh than the hmr. that is what it was meant to due. its not used for shooting armoured animals. the 17 hmr only penetrates because its smaller. its like poking yourself with? a needle vs a screw driver

    .17 is yo? daddy

  17. 17 aardvark445 said at 12:44 pm on January 26th, 2012:

Nice vid, except your shooting range is ridiculously unsafe. You should build a trap or something if youre going to shoot in the basement. fragments could go right up through the? floor!

  18. 18 DeisisAndDrosera said at 12:44 pm on January 26th, 2012:

First off who ever was talking about the ballistics of a? FMJ vs a hollow point is a moron. FMJ or even a steel penetrator is made to penetrate…. A Hollow point is suppose to have minimum penetration and maximum spread / Shock. What good would it be if a hollow point cut clean through the target and not stopping and not transferring its energy to the target? Also the trajectory of the 17HMR is a bit flatter which means better accuracy but the .22 has a heavier bullet witch should do a lot more

  19. 19 DeisisAndDrosera said at 12:44 pm on January 26th, 2012:

damage. The thing is since the 17HMR is? a smaller round, lighter, flatter trajectory it also carries the potential to be easily disrupted and distorted by flesh. I also believe that the design of the .22 has a lot to do with its ineffectiveness.

@yotekiller21 I had a marlin but I traded it in for a new england arms 17? hmr and can shoot 1/2 in. groops with it at 200 yards and it only costed $120

finally? a video worth watching, tired of watching .17hmr vs .22lr. they’re not even in the same class. great vid

  22. 22 yotekiller21 said at 12:44 pm on January 26th, 2012:

the 17hmr has about 100yards more range when it comes to accuracy i can shoot 1 1/2 inch groups at 200 yards where with my 22mag i can only get 1inch groups at 110yards? but when it comes to stopping power at 100-120 yards the 22mag has more but anything past that with the 22mag you would be lucky to even hit a groundhog all in all the 17hmr imo has more usuable range

  23. 23 xXspectre170Xx said at 12:44 pm on January 26th, 2012:

what has more? range, a .22 wmr or .17 hmr????

  24. 24 BigAgitator said at 12:44 pm on January 26th, 2012:

Great video. I just finished an awesome day? of hunting with my savage 93r17 and it killed two animals very easily.

It definitely has some stopping power!

@NRGglitchers Good.? I have one and I am VERY happy with it, as you can see from my vids.
