The Tator’s Savage 17hmr goes head to head with Mcgarey302’s Marlin .22wmr (magnum). You get a bit of a comparison of destructive power but keep this in mind, the video was not meant to be a textbook “comparison.” It is intended to ENTERTAIN. That said, ENJOY! MUSIC is by Slipknot. Song is called “SIC” I did not create the soundtrack music. No copyright infringement intended. Please rate and subscribe! Thanks.

In the longrun the 17hmr will hold its power for a much longer distance then the? 22wmr, but th 22wmr has more power at closer range, the 17hmr will also be a hell of alot more accurate, both of them havedifferent uses the wmr would be a better gun if your hunting for food but the 17hmr will work better for varmit, i own both calibers btw.

@rutbuster1 u got more balls than me. I wouldnt go? hog hunting without at least a .45 on the waiste or a shotgun with slugs

Right now it’s easier to? find 17hmr rounds than 22wmr rounds. That ought to tell you something.

Both are great weapons. As for being good? for coyotes. I’ve dropped a many coyotes and wild hogs with my 17hmr. It’s far more accurate than the 22mag at long distances, that’s why I use it. I don’t want to see a feral hog 50 yards away, them suckers will run you down.

I’ve shot many coyote with the 17. It’s best to take headshots with it though. The longest shot I’ve taken was about 175 yards. Dropped him. The 17 is VERY accurate if you have the scope zeroed in.

I don’t see where you all don’t see the 17hmr as not being a good weapon. I hunt squirrel, rabbits, coyotes, fox’s, and wild hogs with it. To me, it is far more accurate than a? 22lr, but about the same with a 22 magnum. I like shooting them both. I prefer the 17hmr because it is a tad more accurate for long distance shooting. I guess it’s whatever you prefer.

I disagree with “your opinion” of the 17 HMR. This is? buy far one of the most accurate rimfire rounds out there, its not that pricy if you take your time with one round. Yes it is more expensive than 22’s, but with every round the bigger they get the more they cost. But don’t take this as me bashing you. You are entirely entitled to your opinion. Oh on a side note i hunt raccoons, foxes, coyotes with my Thompson Center 17 HMR, shooting the Hornady 20gr XTP.

@MikeFrancis316 Thanks for the comment. Once in a while someone makes a constructive useful comment. I would agree? with you about the 17 being a pricey plinker and definitely not very useful for hunting. I ended up selling it. I lust after the 300 Win mag.

great video? fella’s, love slipknot too!

I bought? a Mossberg .17 HMR thinking it was the be all and end all of rimfire rifles, it was fine for the first few months but at 20$ a box of ammo, blew apart rabbits and other small game, it seemed like an otherwise useless gun, other then for expensive plinking. Sold it and bought a Savage .22 WMR and I have to say I enjoy it much better. Everyone I know around here with a .17 HMR find them useless for hunting.

@pagelock5 With a well placed head? shot at close range (50 yards or less) it would probably get the job done, but you would be better off with at least a .38 special (close range), or a .223 (long range). Though it is fast, a .17HMR is very light, and does not have a lot of energy. It also is easily affected by cross wind.

  21. 21 pagelock5 said at 10:21 am on December 17th, 2011:

@hrsdefense Is a? .17 HMR good enough for coyote hunting?

  25. 25 BigAgitator said at 10:21 am on December 17th, 2011:

@Rocktecho Technically, it’s possible. I wouldn’t ever try it with that caliber? though. a .223 or 22-250 would be my gun of choice… if it was even legal to kill a wolf
